Why a ceiling rather than a louvre roof
The brief here was a patio that earns its furniture — a space usable in July, not only January. That points to an insulated ceiling rather than an adjustable roof. Insulation and double-roof rain protection are what make the difference between cover and comfort: without them, a patio under plain sheeting is unusable by mid-morning in summer.
The seamless interior finish
The part clients notice is the soffit. An insulated ceiling presents a clean, finished surface overhead rather than exposed sheeting and structure, which is what allows the space to read as a room rather than a covered area. It is also what makes recessed downlights possible.
