Location: Benoni, East Rand · System: Adjustable Louvre · Traffic White · Downlights

The brief
Evening entertaining drove this brief: a Traffic White louvre fitted with downlights, so the patio works as beautifully at 9pm as it does at noon.
What we built
White blades bounce daylight deep into the living area; integrated downlights take over after dark. One of our favourite Benoni installations — and a gallery regular.

Designing for after dark
Most patio briefs are written about sunlight. This one was written about evenings — and that changes the specification more than people expect. Cover and shade become secondary; what matters is that the space is lit properly, from above, without a temporary fitting hanging off a wall.
Why Traffic White works for evening use
White is the light-bouncer among our four finishes. Under artificial light that property does real work: downlights recessed into a white system throw light back down into the space instead of being absorbed by a dark soffit. On a charcoal or black roof the same fittings need to work considerably harder.
The specification behind it
- Adjustable louvre system in Traffic White
- Downlights integrated into the structure rather than surface-mounted
- Full all-round gutter system with multiple downpipe outlets
- Manual or automated operation; 95% watertight when closed
If you're considering the same
Lighting position is a decision, not a default — and it is far easier to place before manufacture than after. When you request a quote, say whether the patio gets used in the evenings and roughly where the seating and braai will sit. More Benoni and East Rand work.
