The brief
This East Rand home gained a full outdoor room under a charcoal louvre — dining table, braai and garden view all covered without closing off the sky.
What we built
Charcoal frame and blades over the entertainment patio, custom-made to the exact width of the house. The full perimeter gutter keeps the area dry through summer storms.

Why charcoal
Charcoal is the most forgiving of our four finishes, and on established East Rand housing that matters. Black can read as a hard interruption against older brick and mixed palettes; white draws the eye upward to the roof rather than out to the garden. Charcoal sits between them — contemporary without dating the house, and dark enough that the frame reads as a deliberate line rather than a pale addition.

The case for an adjustable roof here
Older houses often have living rooms that depend on light coming through the patio. Putting a solid roof over that patio can noticeably darken the room behind it — a complaint we would rather help you avoid than fix.
