A Sandton family wanted their patio usable through both peak summer and stormy afternoons. The answer: automation. This Morningside louvre closes at the press of a button — mid-braai, if needed.
What we built
Motorised louvre blades over a clean aluminium frame, with multiple downpipe outlets positioned to suit the existing paving. Sun control by day, storm cover in seconds.

Why automation was the answer
A patio that has to work through both peak summer and stormy afternoons is asking a roof to do two opposite jobs. Fixed cover solves the storm and creates a dark, hot space by January. An adjustable louvre roof solves both — open for winter sun and airflow, closed when the weather turns. The reason to automate rather than crank is timing: Highveld storms arrive in minutes, and a motorised system seals the roof in seconds without anyone leaving the table.

If you're considering the same
Two things are worth deciding early. First, automation is much cleaner specified at manufacture than retrofitted later — even if you start manual, tell us it's on the horizon. Second, think about where water needs to go before you think about how the roof looks; multiple downpipe outlets mean guttering can follow your existing stormwater rather than the shortest route.
